Language
Definition: The human language in which the resource is written. (FAILTE)
Obligation: Compulsory
Type of element: Restricted vocabulary
Entry guidelines
Initially, the predominant language of resources included in the FAILTE database will be English. This may change through time, however, and the set of languages that have been established as possible entries may need to be expanded.
All languages used to a significant extent in a resource should be recorded for the FAILTE record. If this is not possible because the list of terms needs to be expanded, please inform the FAILTE team.
Where the resource is available in more than one language, each language should also be recorded within the Language element.
The information will be stored in the database as a three letter, lower case code, in accordance with the ISO 639-2/B standard. This will enable the information to be easily be exported/imported in a standard, interoperable format.
The languages and codes currently used are:
English (eng)
French (fre)
German (ger)
Japanese (jpn)
Spanish (spa)
